Would you beleive it?! The Zune is starting to get some positive press! Everyone knows that it’s been completely slammed in the press since its launch a few weeks ago. I even contributed to the slamming myself in a previous article (The 10 things wrong with the Zune Player). But how many of those nay-sayers have actually tried it?
In his article at Shoutwire, Leander Kahney discusses his personal experiences from owning a Zune player. Here’s a summary of the reasons he came up with on why the Zune is as good as, if not better than the iPod…
- It has built-in Wi-Fi for peer-to-peer song sharing
- The Zune’s interface impressed him the most: It’s much slicker and easier to use than the iPod
- The Zune’s UI makes great use of 3-D effects and animation
- The Zune’s navigation scheme is better-designed and easier to use
- The Zune is much more intuitive
- You can move sideways through the menu hierarchy
- The Zune’s case is attractive and well-made
- The screen is absolutely gorgeous. It’s just half an inch bigger than the iPod’s, but it makes all the difference. Video looks great. Photos too.
- For $15-a-month, you get an all-you-can-eat subscription service. The marketplace is easy to navigate and has a good choice of songs.
Does this make you want to change your order with Santa this year?

The new 5th generation iPod has arrived, and with it comes 80GB of hard drive – enough to store over 100 hours worth of movies.
This could be the iPod that converts the remaining few. Some people must have been waiting until it could store everything – from music to images and movies. Now it can. So what are the main improvements?
· Up to 20 hours(1) of battery life
· 80GB storage
· Improved video playback time, iPod keeps you entertained for up to 6.5 hours
· You can even view photo slideshows complete with music on iPod or on a TV via the optional iPod AV Cable
· A brand-new, built-in search function lets you use the Click Wheel to type out the name of the song, artist, album, audiobook, or podcast you’re looking for, and your iPod returns results instantly as you select letters
The iPod had to choose a new direction to continue to outpace the evolvement of mobile phone technology. With Sony Ericcson bringing out a phone (the W950i) with a 4GB hard drive – capable of holding up to 4000 songs – the portable media player marketplace is hotting up.

The Zune Player has a lot going for it. Namely Microsoft. However, most reviews in aren’t good. So what’s wrong with it?
The following 10 Things Wrong With The Zune Player is taken from Zune: So You Want To Be An iPod Killer.
1) Hardware issues. It’s is a little too bulky and heavy
2) It’s fake click wheel is really just a cheap plastic rocker switch
3) Wi-Fi is nice, but you can’t connect to anything but another Zune
4) It only works with Windows XP
5) It is incompatible with common media formats such as DivX
6) It plays movies, but you can’t buy them from the Zune Marketplace
7) It isn’t ready for podcasting
8) The software installation process needs a lot of work
9) Some features are too hard to find and not well designed
10) It stops playing current music during Wi-Fi, peer-to-peer music transfer
Can anyone add to the list?!?

As discussed back in June in MP3 News Microsoft’s planned iPod killer - The Zune - is due for release in the States on November 14. Just in time for the holiday season!
However, as mentioned in MP4 Soup on October 25, iPod aren’t scared about loosing their market share. “It takes forever,” Apple Co-Founder Steve Jobs told Newsweek in an interview when discussing the introduction of a newbrand into a market.
So should Apple be scared? Possibly. If anything, it might be positive for consumers. Greater competition should at least motivate Apple to increase their iPod functions and reduce their prices. That’s the theory anyway.

The MP4 Player Brand has been recently launched and Trade Marked in the USA.
The MP4 players launched by MP4Player.us claims is that it has designed a “10 in 1″ MP4 Player, offering a lot more value than the Video iPod.
So what main additional features does it contain?
* Build in speakers
* A Voice recorder
* An FM Radio
* An FM Transmitter to play music remotely through you car stereo system.
There are a few additional features that may be of interest to some. It’ll have to be something really special to choose this instead of a Video iPod though.
