Movie and music lovers nowadays are caught up with the release of countless devices that can easily store up to 20,000 songs and 100 hours of video. This phenomenon started during the advent of converting normally large audio and video files into smaller file sizes without sacrificing the quality of the sound or the image. It used to be that music and video files fill up so much hard disk space faster than one can imagine. Depending on the disk space you have, you would never fully appreciate the limited number of songs and videos provided by a hard disk space filled with these big files. The files do not have the capacity to be played on different media players too, so storing them is really hard.
The MPEG4:
MPEG4 is a compressed video produced by the software created by Microsoft called Codec, a software program that can decode and encode digital streams. MP4 files was created due to the joint effort of a large number of researchers focused on reducing the size of large, cumbersome music and video files into smaller ones to provide more disk space. With this smaller sized format, you now have to option to store more music and video files on your disk space and playing them over different media players is not a problem anymore. You just have to download the latest configuration of the media players to view your MPEG4 files. You now have the option of not deleting any of your old video and music files to make way for newer ones.
The Advantages of MPEG4:
With the advent of MPEG4 or MP4, the storage of music and videos on a hard disk has really changed for the better. MPEG4 or MP4 has been hailed as the prevailing music and video file in the market today. The iPod itself encourages the use of the MPEG4 of MP4 files for video and music and nowadays there are some other MP4 players available too. It was believed that MPEG4 is limited only to video files but this is not so. Music files in the same form may also be made available and this is evident in Apple’s online music store, the iTunes. Videos in the MPEG4 format are being sold online in their website and it has reaped a thousand followers to date. Maybe in the few years to come, audio files can also be converted to MPEG4, saving up on the disk space you need. This is the reason why Apple’s iPod can store up to 20,000 songs and 100 hours of video with just 80 GB of disk space.
There are video converters available online where you could manually convert your own videos to the MPEG4 file format. This can help you considerably save up on disk space and can help you store more files. You can even load them on your own iPod for a more portable use of your music and your videos. The choice is just up to you.

Would you beleive it?! The Zune is starting to get some positive press! Everyone knows that it’s been completely slammed in the press since its launch a few weeks ago. I even contributed to the slamming myself in a previous article (The 10 things wrong with the Zune Player). But how many of those nay-sayers have actually tried it?
In his article at Shoutwire, Leander Kahney discusses his personal experiences from owning a Zune player. Here’s a summary of the reasons he came up with on why the Zune is as good as, if not better than the iPod…
- It has built-in Wi-Fi for peer-to-peer song sharing
- The Zune’s interface impressed him the most: It’s much slicker and easier to use than the iPod
- The Zune’s UI makes great use of 3-D effects and animation
- The Zune’s navigation scheme is better-designed and easier to use
- The Zune is much more intuitive
- You can move sideways through the menu hierarchy
- The Zune’s case is attractive and well-made
- The screen is absolutely gorgeous. It’s just half an inch bigger than the iPod’s, but it makes all the difference. Video looks great. Photos too.
- For $15-a-month, you get an all-you-can-eat subscription service. The marketplace is easy to navigate and has a good choice of songs.
Does this make you want to change your order with Santa this year?

MP4 Player manufacturers in China have their eyes set on toppling the dominance of the iPod.
It’s yet to be seen whether or not the Zune Player will take a serious chunk out of the iPod’s MP4 market dominance.
However, what’s more apparent is that many people aren’t choosing between an iPod and a Zune player - they’re choosing between an iPod and a non-branded MP4 player.
Global Sources list hundreds of different MP4 manufacturers based in China. eBay are currently listing over 20,000 MP4 Players for sale. Many of these are sent directly from China.
So what are often the benefits of buying an MP4 player manufactured in China instead of an iPod?
- It’s much cheaper
- It probably has an FM radio
- It probably has a voice recorder
- Did I mention that it’s much cheaper???

The new 5th generation iPod has arrived, and with it comes 80GB of hard drive – enough to store over 100 hours worth of movies.
This could be the iPod that converts the remaining few. Some people must have been waiting until it could store everything – from music to images and movies. Now it can. So what are the main improvements?
· Up to 20 hours(1) of battery life
· 80GB storage
· Improved video playback time, iPod keeps you entertained for up to 6.5 hours
· You can even view photo slideshows complete with music on iPod or on a TV via the optional iPod AV Cable
· A brand-new, built-in search function lets you use the Click Wheel to type out the name of the song, artist, album, audiobook, or podcast you’re looking for, and your iPod returns results instantly as you select letters
The iPod had to choose a new direction to continue to outpace the evolvement of mobile phone technology. With Sony Ericcson bringing out a phone (the W950i) with a 4GB hard drive – capable of holding up to 4000 songs – the portable media player marketplace is hotting up.

The Zune Player has a lot going for it. Namely Microsoft. However, most reviews in aren’t good. So what’s wrong with it?
The following 10 Things Wrong With The Zune Player is taken from Zune: So You Want To Be An iPod Killer.
1) Hardware issues. It’s is a little too bulky and heavy
2) It’s fake click wheel is really just a cheap plastic rocker switch
3) Wi-Fi is nice, but you can’t connect to anything but another Zune
4) It only works with Windows XP
5) It is incompatible with common media formats such as DivX
6) It plays movies, but you can’t buy them from the Zune Marketplace
7) It isn’t ready for podcasting
8) The software installation process needs a lot of work
9) Some features are too hard to find and not well designed
10) It stops playing current music during Wi-Fi, peer-to-peer music transfer
Can anyone add to the list?!?

Intex Aura 401 MP4 player 1 GB is a mini pocket gadget for students, youngsters, and professionals who want to carry their music, videos, and pictures along while on-the-move.
As an all-in-one entertainment package, the features include AMV Video File Format, 1.8-inch screen, 250K color TFT, built-in FM tuner with 20 channel presets, voice recorder, and a USB drive. This MP4 player enables viewing videos while on the move.
It’s a very interesting new addition to the range of MP4 players available because it also includes a built in FM radio, voice recorder and USB drive at a budget price. I get the feeling that someone’s done their market research very well.

Thanko are bringing an MP4 Player Watch to market. What next! The MP4 Player watch may catch on though - how many people do you know that still wear watches even though? Many people do.
The chances are though that it’ll still be a children’s product. An extremely portable MP4 Player without a phone could fill a gap in the market. But maybe not. We’ll see.

Zune Player owner Jason Chen brought a smile to my face this morning when he talked about the life of a lonely Zune player owner.
He’s been using the roming Zune function that lets you search for other Zune Player owners and then swap tracks with each other. One problem. He couldn’t find one other Zune owner!
Better luck in the future, Jason!
